I saw his eyes. They were big brown pools that somehow communicated sadness, though he never said a word. His lips were pursed, pressed tightly together in an attempt to fight off a frown. His brow creased instead, frowning where his lips would not. But all I could see were his eyes. He stared straight ahead and, had I really thought any better of myself I'd have thought that he was staring at me. He wasn't; I happened to be sitting in the path of his gaze.
